Record a stream! Mount Seymour Provincial Park

How do you listen to a stream?
How do you record a stream?
At Mount Seymour Provincial Park, we took a walk through damp British Columbia rainforest.
As we crossed a footbridge on the Baden-Powell trail,
I really liked the sound of the water trickling down the mossy logs and across the stones into a small rivulet.   Listen!

I made a mental note to record it when we hiked back by.

Night Sounds - Listen in at Massacre Rocks State Park, Idaho

It's hard to find a quiet place when you're on the road.
We camped at Massacre Rocks State Park in Idaho - a great stop.
Only issue -  the road is a bit close....
This is park is right along the famous Oregon Trail. Listen in!

HD
The insects were loud, but the road was a bit louder - even at 2 am!
Watch the moon for a while and listen to the night.

Grand Teton National Park - A Sudden Storm in Wyoming

Grand Teton National Park

Clouds reflected perfectly from the pond as we drove up through the sagebrush toward Jenny Lake.
The sky might be bright and sunny, but things can change rapidly in the mountains.

HD

A white pelican!
The park's elevation ranges from the valley floor at 6,320 feet to 13,770 feet on the summit of the Grand Teton.

Storms can come up quickly as the moist air rises and cools at the peak.

Water for Hot Summer Bees

Provide Backyard Water for Hot Summer Bees!
A birdbath is an important stopover place
for water-stressed birds and bees.

In dry Southern California, fresh water is at a premium.

Mongolia - Listen to the winds across the Gobi Desert

Mongolia - The Gobi Desert

As with most deserts, the Gobi has life in  miniature, and in the extremes.
The wind is strong most of the year, so much of the plant and animal life hugs the ground.
Listen to the wind!

HD

The exception of course,  to ground huggers are the birds.
They look for a high point ... but there are no trees.

Sometimes only a foot off the ground on a rock pile road marker is best you can get!

 Sunrises and sunsets are spectacular.

Way cool!

Arroyo Seco - Angeles National Forest - a little water for a thirsty world

Switzer Picnic Area in Angeles National Forest has a beautiful hiking path (Gabrieleno trail) along the tree lined stream bed of the Arroyo Seco.

The Arroyo Seco or "dry stream" is an important watershed in southern California.

Although this stream can be seasonal, the plant and animal community it supports needs the moisture under the rocky bed all through the year.

Listen to the stream on the last week of spring.

HD

A good place to bird, too!

Fee: Adventure Pass required for vehicles.

Elevation: 3,300 feet

From the 210 Freeway exit at Angeles Crest Highway (Hwy 2) and head north about 9.5 miles to the picnic area on the right.

"While on a trail or in and around campgrounds and picnic areas, dogs must be kept on a leash. In addition, your dog must wear a collar with current tags at all times, as state and county laws apply on National Forest System lands."

Yellowstone's Dragon's Mouth Spring is an active and

The roaring sound of the steam and water in the cave is one of my favorite things.

Bees Buzzing in the Lemon Tree

Southern California is having early warm days this year, and the trees and the bees are making the best of it.

HD Video

Our Meyer lemon tree burst into bloom in early February.

Take a look at her feet - sticky from the bright
yellow citrus pollen.

With the help of these little ladies, we should have a very good crop of sweet lemons later this year!

Keep pesticides away from your garden and help provide food sources for these important pollinators.

See Yellowstone Hot Pools Bubbling

Some of Yellowstone National Park's most amazing features are the hot spring pools of superheated water.

Geothermally heated water pushes up from the rocks below cooling through convection as it reaches the surface.

Watch the hot gas and water as it bursts to the top.

hd

The different colors in and at the edge of pools are from mineral deposits and from the microscopic growth of many temperature dependent thermomophiles  - bacteria that live in extreme temperature conditions.
